Truro City manager Lee Hodges praised his side for achieving their first priority following Saturday's 1-1 Blue Square Bet South draw at struggling Staines Town.

Hodges said: "The main thing was to come away from Staines with something, a point, and we've done that.

"We didn't want to be beaten up there and the lads really put the effort in to make sure that didn't happen."

In-form Stewart Yetton latched on to a through ball from midfielder Marcus Martin to open the scoring for City with a crisp 44th-minute finish past Staines' former Torquay United and Exeter City goalkeeper Danny Potter.

Hodges admitted: "It was a nice finish by Yetts. Marcus put the ball down the middle, one of the forwards has got a flick-on and Yetts has made enough room to get the shot off and it put us one up.

"That's what you get from him. He has been looking good and you always know, when Yetts is at the top of his game, he will get goals – he has proven it time and again.

"To be fair, it was a scrappy game, a real battle in the middle and so to go in 1-0 ahead at half-time was brilliant.

"I told the boys how well they had done to get ahead but we all knew we would have to dig in during the second half, which was much the same as the first, and that's exactly what we did.

"We defended really well in the second half, not just the defenders, but as a unit. The midfield played their part, our shape was good and Arran Pugh put in a great shift at the back, tracking back and making some important tackles.

"I think Staines had three chances. One was saved by Ollie [Chenoweth], one was blasted over and the other one – from a whipped in cross – resulted in their goal."

The hosts' David Wheeler headed home to make it 1-1. Nevertheless, Hodges – who recalled fit-again Steve Adams in central defence, allowing skipper Jake Ash to move forward into midfield – took confidence from City's fourth point in two games.

The City boss said: "I always knew that March would be a massive month for us and we have picked up two wins and this draw and are back up to 15th. The priority on Saturday was maintaining the seven points between us and Staines, and that's what we have done. Most of the results went our way again.

"It will become a lot clearer over Easter because most of us have matches on Saturday and next Monday and teams at the bottom are running out of games – and some have to play each other."
